Janssen has also been a published commercial photographer since 1988, working in advertising and editorial creative imaging and was a photographer in the United States Air Force before receiving his bachelor’s degree in Fine Art from the University of South Florida.
His photographs have been exhibited at venues in New York at Universal Concepts Unlimited Gallery, Art Gotham, his Broome Street Studio Space, Taranto Gallery et al. In Florida, his work has been shown at the Miami Art Museum, Miami Center for The Fine Arts, Tampa Museum of Art, St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts, Pensacola Museum of Art, Samuel P. Harn Museum of Fine Art. Internationally, his work has been shown at Gora Gallery in Montreal and Colorita Gallery in Portugal.
He was an artist-in-residence in the cupola of the Sohmer Building at 170 Fifth Avenue under the auspices of Zintzmeyer and Lux Corporation. In the 2000 Biennial at the Whitney Museum of American Art he performed Krzysztof Wodiczko’s Aegis using MIT-developed robotics, speech recognition and video art technologies.
In 2003 Janssen completed his five-year, internationally-based performance piece, The Mythic Mind, that culminated in a solo exhibition at the long defunct Universal Concepts Unlimited gallery in New York.
In 2015, he won a Special Jury Prize at the Buffalo International Film Festival for his film: “Aleatories From An Echo”.
Janssen presently works in photo/video/drawing-based digital abstraction and motion graphic 3D animated video.
He lives and works in New York City.
